Is UWorld Enough for the Bar Exam? NextGen and UBE (2027)

By Robert Walker6 min read

Short answer: it depends on which UWorld and which exam.

  • UWorld's MBE QBank on its own ($449 for February 2027) isn't enough for either exam. It practises multiple choice only. On the legacy UBE that's the MBE, 50% of your score. On the NextGen exam, standalone multiple choice is 49% of the score, and UWorld's bank uses the old one-of-four format across seven subjects, where NextGen tests eight.
  • Themis + UWorld NextGen Bar Prep ($1,895 paid in full) is a full course with UWorld's NextGen practice in all three formats. That one covers the whole exam.

Prices and features below were read on UWorld's and NCBE's own pages on October 23, 2026.

First: which exam are you taking?

For July 2026, NCBE lists 10 of 56 jurisdictions as giving the NextGen UBE, 35 the legacy UBE and 11 their own exams. Your February or July 2027 sitting may be either, and it changes the answer, so check your state in the switch-date guide first.

What UWorld's MBE QBank covers, and what it doesn't

The MBE QBank has 1,900+ questions, 1,150+ of them licensed from NCBE, plus one self-assessment, unlimited practice tests, flashcards, a notebook and a mobile app.

On the legacy exam, UWorld's bank is the right tool for the MBE half, and you still need essay and performance-test practice for the other half. On NextGen, its questions still teach the law of the seven shared subjects. What they don't practise is the select-two format, Business Associations, or the question sets and performance tasks that carry 51% of the score.

Where UWorld's NextGen practice actually is

UWorld's NextGen multiple-choice questions, integrated question sets and performance tasks, along with the NCBE-licensed NextGen material it has, come inside Themis + UWorld NextGen Bar Prep. That's a full course: $1,895 paid in full or $2,095 with $25 down (list $2,995), with four months of access (November to February for the February exam). UWorld's product menu lists the MBE QBank and full courses; we found no NextGen bank sold on its own.

If you're weighing that course, the Barbri vs Themis vs Kaplan vs Helix comparison sets it against the others.

What is a good percentage on UWorld?

There's no official answer, and UWorld says so itself. Your practice percentage tracks progress, but it can't be turned into an exact scaled score, because NCBE equates scores across exams and publishes no fixed conversion. So:

  • Watch your weakest subject, not your average. UWorld's blog treats about 70% correct as generally on track for the MBE, then warns that a good overall number can hide a weak subject: 90% in one and 40% in another averages out fine and still costs points.
  • Use the peer comparison. UWorld's dashboard compares your results with peers at the same stage of preparation, which tells you more than a raw percentage.
  • On NextGen, multiple choice is less than half the picture. Our working benchmark is 60% across all three formats, a heuristic we explain here, not an NCBE number. A strong UWorld percentage says nothing about the 51% of the score that's written and applied work.

What to add to UWorld, cheapest first

Integrated question sets and performance tasks, 51% of the scoreBARGO: all 30 question sets and 15 performance tasks with model answers and rubrics, $99 for lifetime access or $29 for 30 days. NCBE's official practice: $110 per simulated exam, $325 for the complete bundle
The select-two format and Business AssociationsBARGO's 2,900+ questions in both NextGen formats, across all eight subjects

UWorld plus BARGO comes to $548. Add NCBE's $325 bundle for official calibration and it's $873, still under half the course price.

Taking the legacy UBE: the gap is the written half (MEE 30%, MPT 20%). AdaptiBar's Writing Guide, $295 for the UBE or California, practises with real released essays and performance tests.

So is UWorld worth it?

  • For the legacy MBE: yes, if multiple choice is your weak half. It's built for that exam, and its explanations are what people buy it for.
  • For NextGen: spend first on the formats that carry 51% of the score. Add UWorld's MBE bank only if your multiple choice in the seven shared subjects still lags after that.
  • If you're buying Themis anyway: the UWorld QBank is already in the course, so don't buy it twice.

Frequently asked questions

Is UWorld enough to pass the bar exam?
UWorld’s MBE QBank on its own is not enough, because it practises multiple choice only. On the legacy UBE that is the MBE, 50% of the score; the essays (MEE, 30%) and performance tests (MPT, 20%) need separate practice. On the NextGen exam, standalone multiple choice is 49% of the score, and the integrated question sets and performance tasks that carry the other 51% are not in the bank.
Is UWorld enough for the NextGen bar exam?
The standalone MBE QBank is not. Its questions use the MBE’s one-of-four format across seven subjects, while NextGen adds a select-two-of-six format, an eighth subject (Business Associations and Relationships), integrated question sets (21%) and performance tasks (30%). UWorld’s NextGen practice in all three formats comes inside the Themis + UWorld NextGen course, which is a full course at $1,895 paid in full as of October 23, 2026.
What is a good percentage on UWorld for the bar exam?
There is no official one. UWorld says your practice percentage tracks progress but cannot be converted into an exact scaled score, because NCBE equates scores and publishes no fixed conversion. Watch your weakest subject rather than your average, and use UWorld’s comparison with peers at the same stage. On NextGen, our working benchmark is 60% across all three formats, a heuristic rather than an NCBE number.
Does UWorld have NextGen questions?
Yes, but not as a separate bank. As of October 23, 2026, UWorld’s NextGen multiple-choice questions, integrated question sets, performance tasks and NCBE-licensed NextGen materials come inside Themis + UWorld NextGen Bar Prep. The standalone product UWorld sells is its MBE QBank.
How much does UWorld cost for the bar exam?
As of October 23, 2026, the UWorld MBE QBank is $449 for the February 2027 exam (access through February 26, 2027) or for the July 2027 exam (access from March 1), and $549 for July 2027 early prep with immediate access. Themis + UWorld NextGen Bar Prep is $1,895 paid in full or $2,095 with $25 down (list $2,995).
Does Themis include UWorld?
Yes. Themis says every course includes the UWorld QBank, so if you are buying Themis, don’t buy UWorld’s MBE QBank separately.
