The exam

NextGen bar exam basics

The NextGen UBE is NCBE’s redesigned bar exam, first administered July 28–29, 2026. It runs 9 hours over 1.5 days — three 3-hour sessions, each with roughly 40 multiple-choice questions, 2 integrated question sets, and 1 performance task — taken on your own laptop at in-person proctored test sites.
Eight Foundational Concepts & Principles: Business Associations, Civil Procedure, Constitutional Law, Contract Law, Criminal Law & Constitutional Protections of Accused Persons, Evidence, Real Property, and Torts. Through February 2028, Family Law and Trusts & Estates also appear — but only in skills questions where the exam provides the legal resources, so there is nothing extra to memorize. Family Law becomes a fully tested subject in July 2028.
The exam reports a single scaled score from 500 to 750, portable across NextGen jurisdictions. NCBE recommends setting passing between 610 and 620, and each jurisdiction sets its own — Oregon, for example, set 615 for July 2026. Our internal analytics target a sustained 70%+ practice accuracy so you have headroom on the day.
Retake limits are set by each jurisdiction, not by NCBE — many allow unlimited attempts while others cap them. Check the rules published by your state’s board of bar examiners.
July 28–29, 2026 is the first administration, followed by February 23–24, 2027 — the exam then runs every February and July. Registration windows and deadlines are set per jurisdiction, so confirm with your board of bar examiners or at ncbex.org.
Ten jurisdictions administer it from July 2026; the rest switch in waves through July 2028, and the legacy UBE runs alongside until February 2028. Our jurisdictions page lists every state’s first NextGen date, announced passing score, and transition rules — see nextgenbargo.com/jurisdictions.

The product

What you get

The full practice-question bank with explanations, spaced-repetition flashcards, unlimited timed practice exams, study notes for every topic, weak-area analytics, bookmarking, and study-streak tracking.
Yes. Every subject and topic is mapped to NCBE’s published Content Scope Outline. We update the question bank whenever the scope changes.
The website itself needs a connection, but there is a separate BARGO iOS app built for offline study on iPhone and iPad. It is an independent product with its own Apple App Store subscription — a website purchase does not unlock the app, and progress is not shared between them.
Yes. Fully responsive — commute flashcards on mobile, desktop for deep study, progress syncs between the two.
New questions ship in batches as they clear review — the live counts on every subject page come straight from the content manifest, so what you see is what exists. Subjects still being authored say so and offer a notify-me list instead of a fake date.
Yes. Free accounts get the readiness quiz (10 questions) plus sample content from every subject. Platform plans carry a 14-day money-back guarantee.

No. The website (a one-time lifetime or 1-month purchase) and the iOS app (a separate Apple App Store subscription) are independent products with separate billing and access — buying one does not unlock the other, and progress is not shared.
