Practice performance tasks on your phone

The performance task is the part of the NextGen exam candidates practice least, because until now practicing one meant printing a packet and self-grading an essay at a desk. The app carries 15 timed performance tasks, each with its own File and Library to work from, including the legal-research variety where research questions carry double weight. It is the most portable PT practice a bar candidate has ever had.

What a NextGen performance task actually tests

A PT hands you a supervising attorney’s memo, a File of case materials, and a Library of authorities, then asks you to produce lawyer work against the clock. Doctrine barely matters; what scores is task discipline. Reading the memo twice, budgeting minutes across the File, and writing to the requested format are trained behaviors, and they only become behaviors through repetition. Fifteen tasks is enough repetition to make the routine boring, which is the goal.

The research tasks deserve special respect

NextGen added legal-research tasks where the research questions are double-weighted, a detail plenty of candidates discover on exam day. The app includes them, weighted the way the exam weights them, so your practice scores already price in the item type most prep materials skip. Pair the reps here with the strategy piece below and the PT stops being the wildcard on your score report.

Phone-sized practice, desk-sized payoff

A full PT is a serious sitting, and the app treats it as one: timed, offline, uninterrupted. But the phone format also unlocks lighter reps that were never possible before, like re-reading a File on a commute and sketching the answer structure in your head. The seven foundational lawyering skills the exam tests run through every task, and reps are the only way they compound.

Quick answers

Are the performance tasks timed like the real exam?
Yes, each task runs against the clock with its File and Library alongside, the way the section simulator also presents them. You can sit one standalone or inside a full 3-hour section.
Do the tasks include the legal-research type?
Yes, including the double weighting on research questions that the real exam applies, so practice scores reflect how the section actually grades.
